A Cure for the Unorganized Sales Team

Sales professionals are commonly thought of as lazy unorganized but it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve taken a few lessons from the fast-paced world of software product development and applied them to our inside sales team.

These two new behaviors can act as a cure to being unorganized….the “scrum” & the “sprint”.

  • Scrum: Every day each sales team conducts a STAND-UP meeting. The meeting is ONLY 10 minutes long & each person has a crystal clear agenda (1. what were the three things you did yesterday? 2. what are the three things you are doing today? & 3. what are your roadblocks, if any?) We recommend scheduling Scrum to recur daily at a time that works best for you (we do 11:50am but any concrete time will work) & make sure folks call in if they are out of the office.
  • Sprint: Once per week (typically Monday), the sales team has a 30 minute meeting where we lay out and commit to our core tasks through the week. We type them all out using a tool called Trello. This enables everyone on the team to see what you are responsible for and to check back next week to see if you accomplished it.

All-in-all, we don’t recommend companies have lots of meetings. But we’ve found by having these two with regular rhythm, we’re able to solve so many of the common communication and commitment issues sales teams typically face. These meetings help keep everyone on the same page, introduce a special flow to the company and actually help reduce the need for other meetings throughout the day/week.
