The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

Are you prepared for CCPA?

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), goes into effect on January 1, 2020. The CCPA is a state law that provides California residents more control over the personal information that a business collects about them.

Does the CCPA impact your company?

Probably!  Since January 1 is only a few months away, the time to make that determination, and prepare your organization is now.

While there are some similarities between the GDPR and CCPA, there are also major differences.  Remember GDPR compliance related to the processing of data subjects based in the European Economic Area, not California. Thus, even if you were subject to the GDPR, you will likely have gaps that need to be addressed to be compliant with the CCPA

Below are some steps you might consider in moving forward on your CCPA plan:

  • Step 1 Determine if your organization is affected
  • Step 2: If you are affected, familiarize yourself with the requirements and build a plan to become compliant.
  • Step 3: Execute – Close your gaps.
